Gabriel ViehhauserThe outstanding literary significance of Wolfram von Eschenbach's Parzival is due in no small part to the fact that this romance from the courtly golden age was still being repeatedly copied at the close of the Middle Ages and was even printed. The monograph examines four manuscripts and early prints from this time of transition in written media in the 15th century; on the one hand, the texts prove significant for textual history through their dependence on the early version *m, largely neglected now, and on the other, the novel layouts used are expressive of their epoch.
